Chris Carney Votes To Keep Pigs At The Trough
With an opportunity to adopt a moratorium on wasteful spending earmarks,
Chris Carney sided with his liberal allies against the taxpayers
DALLAS, PA – Today, by a very close 204-196 vote, the U.S. House of Representatives rejected a measure that would have established a moratorium against wasteful earmark spending. Tenth District Congressman Chris Carney sided with the liberal majority in favor of keeping the Washington waste machine going.
"Chris Carney failed Pennsylvania taxpayers today. He once again sided with Nancy Pelosi and the liberal majority in Washington instead of with the hard working taxpayers of our district," said Republican congressional candidate Chris Hackett. "These wasteful spending projects poison the political process, and Chris Carney missed a real opportunity today to send a clear message that Congress was serious about reform," continued Hackett.
"I have made earmarks a priority in my campaign, because it's become clear that Congress has no ability to control itself. Without principled conservatives in Congress who will stand up to the tax-and-spend crowd, we will continue to have runaway deficits while funding fruit fly research in France," said Hackett.
Hackett said, "When times are tight, families in the 10th district tighten our belts. It's time for Washington to tighten its belt. The least we should be able to expect from Chris Carney is that he would oppose these most indefensible examples of wasteful Washington spending, but I guess even that looks like it's too much to ask."
