Hackett: Carney's Liberal Policies Contribute to Higher Gas Prices

Carney has done nothing about gas prices other than make them worse

Dallas, PA - Chris Carney entered office with gas at $2.33 per gallon pledging to bring down the price, but during his time in office gas has risen over 70%. A year ago he mailed a flier out at taxpayer expense saying, "Chris Carney is fighting to end record prices at the gas pump," yet still nothing has been done.

Today, Congressman John Peterson (PA-5) introduced a bill in Congress that would expand our ability to explore offshore drilling. The passage of this legislation would increase the supply of oil available and help lower the cost of gas.

At the same time, the No More Excuses Energy Act of 2007, would increase domestic refinery capacity. Regrettably, Carney and the liberals who run Congress show no interest in this common sense way to reduce gas prices.

"Chris Carney has a great opportunity to do something about gas prices by supporting increases in domestic production and refining. Once again, Carney faces a choice between the people of our district or the liberal Pelosi leadership in Congress. Hopefully, this time he will change his usual pattern and side with us," said congressional candidate Chris Hackett.

"Sadly, Chris Carney has talked a good game but when he gets to Washington he's stood with the liberals in Congress to stop real action on this issue. While, Chris Carney has been in congress, the people of northeastern and central Pennsylvania have seen only worsening prices at the pump," said campaign spokesman Mark Harris, "Unfortunately, he's shown no willingness to put the people of the 10th District in front of his need to appease the liberals in his party."
