Chris Hackett Calls On Carney To Condemn Attack On General Petraeus
Dallas - Congressional Candidate Chris Hackett today issued a strongly worded challenge to Congressman Chris Carney to condemn the outrageous assault on the integrity of the leading General in the war on worldwide Islamofascist terrorism, General Petraeus.
The vicious attack on Petraeus came before his Congressional testimony scheduled for yesterday in the form of a full page ad in the New York Times paid for by the liberal fringe group MoveOn.org. It slandered the General with a cruel play on Petraeus' name. The headline blared "GENERAL PETRAEUS OR GENERAL BETRAY US?" under a picture of the highly decorated General. The subheading said "Cooking the Books for the White House."
"This is a very disturbing attack on a great American," said Hackett. "American soldiers are risking their lives, the American people support the troops and are genuinely interested in hearing the report of the General running the surge, and this radical group is assaulting the honor of the General before he even gets to testify."
Congressman Carney benefited from the efforts of this 527 group in his campaign last year. They did 66,174 phone calls for him according to a MoveOn.org press release Nov. 8, 2006. They also contributed over $168,000 to his Congressional Campaign, according to an NRCC press release.
In May, the New York Times reported that MoveOn.org works closely with the Democratic leadership. Saturday, the Politico.com website reported that a Democratic senator, who spoke on the condition on anonymity, said "No one wants to call [Petraeus] a liar on national TV. The expectation is that the outside groups will do this for us."
Hackett continued: "Carney should condemn this attack on the integrity of General Petraeus, return the money they sent him and pledge to never again accept any support from this radical anti-American group."
"I support our military leaders and our soldiers in the field as they continue to wage and win the global fight against Islamofascist terrorism. I look forward to reviewing the General's report on our progress. We should spend less time talking about how to withdraw from the fight and more time talking about how we win. We cannot afford to lose," Hackett concluded.
