Hackett Says Carney Priorities Wrong
Carney voted with Pork King Murtha to keep earmarks in Critical National Intelligence Program bill
Dallas -- Rep. Chris Carney (PA-10) proved once again that he is not willing to put America's security interests above his personal political priorities. Chris Carney voted for the status quo on Washington corruption this week by opposing a modest reform measure that would strip all wasteful spending earmarks from a bill that was designed to enhance our nation's intelligence laws. (House Roll Call 1125)
Although the measure passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, Carney repeatedly sticks with Nancy Pelosi and liberal congressional leaders when they try to secretly fund things like a Jack Murtha-sponsored project that has been deemed a wasteful "boondoggle," all at the expense of important funding for our nation's intelligence programs.
"This wasn't a hard vote. Sixty-two Democrats stood up to the liberal Democrat leadership and put security ahead of pork," said Chris Hackett, conservative Republican congressional candidate in the 10th District. "Congressman Carney continues his troubling pattern of negligence when it comes to openness and transparency," Hackett continued. "A Congressman's decisions about national intelligence laws should not be tied to his willingness to support pork spending. Every project should stand or fall on its own merit."
Chris Hackett has made reducing wasteful federal spending a hallmark of his campaign for Congress. He is currently airing a radio ad throughout the district in which he discusses the importance of the issue.
