Carney Recycles Broken Promises
Dallas, PA – Today, Chris Carney released a new ad highlighting his broken promises to the citizens of the 10th Congressional District.
Carney Ad: “We’re getting squeezed at the gas pump”
Carney Broken Promise: “Chris Carney has been talking about energy security since day one” (CarneyForCongress.com, 9/29/2005); “We need to take action now to ensure that our neighbors can stay warm this winter” (CarneyForCongress.com, 10/27/2005)
The Facts: Carney just yesterday voted against even debating a bill that would have opened up offshore drilling (Roll Call 547, 7/31/08). This is just one of a series of votes that Carney has taken to oppose expanding the supply of oil. On June 27th, 2007 Carney voted against allowing increased energy exploration on federal land (Roll Call 577). In fact, no substantial energy legislation has passed the Democratic Congress even though Democrats made it a campaign issue in 2006. One Democratic aide quipped their energy policy was “drive smaller cars and wait for the wind.”
Carney Ad: “To protect America’s families now we need real tax cuts for the middle class”
Carney Broken Promise: In the 2006 campaign, Chris Carney unveiled a “plan to cut taxes for middle class families” (CarneyForCongress.com, 8/30/2006) which detailed cutting federal tax rates, a $10,000 per year tax deduction, and a “new baby tax credit.”
The Facts: While the Democrats have had full control of the House none of these measures have passed even though he made it a major political part of his campaign in 2006. In fact, Carney has authored no legislation that would achieve these goals either.
Even more outrageously, Carney released an ad entitled “Breakfast Time” in 2006 that said, “We need middle class tax cuts for our families” and yet its 2008 and there’s still no tax cuts, but Chris Carney feels he can trick the voters of the 10th District again.
“No amount of false advertising can hide the fact that Chris Carney has repeatedly voted against American energy solutions, against taxpayers, and against small business owners,” said campaign spokesman Mark Harris.
