Hackett Issues Challenge: Carney Should Follow Obama’s Lead and Flip-Flop on Offshore Oil Drilling
Dallas, PA – Recognizing the growing consensus for an energy policy that stresses increasing energy production, Barack Obama flip-flopped and reversed his opposition to offshore oil drilling on Friday (Washington Post, 8/2/2008).
However, while Obama has made the right choice, just before Congress left for a five-week vacation on Friday, Chris Carney and his liberal allies blocked a bill that would have opened up offshore drilling. Outrageously, Carney even voted against debating the bill (Roll Call 547, 7/31/2008) and put the liberal special interests first.
“Chris Carney has repeatedly blocked all efforts to increase American energy production, and has voted in lockstep with the liberal leadership that has put their special interests in front of the best interest of the American people,” said congressional candidate Chris Hackett.
At the end of next month the Congressional offshore ban will expire and after President Bush lifted the Presidential offshore drilling ban the liberal special interests are demanding a renewal.
Today, Chris Hackett issued this challenge to Chris Carney: “For the sake of the American people who are being hurt by record gas prices, please join your candidate for president, Barack Obama, in flip-flopping and reversing your position in opposition to offshore drilling.”
