Hackett Launches TV Ads Outlining Positive Plan for 10th District

Dallas, PA - Today, the Chris Hackett for Congress campaign launched two new television commercials, its first of the general election.  The ads entitled “Plan” and “New Direction” outline Chris Hackett’s positive vision for the 10Th District.

The message of the ads come directly from Hackett’s Declaration of Principles, and focus on the need to control wasteful federal spending (Principle 1), stop the raid on the Social Security Trust Fund (Principle 2), end corporate welfare (Principle 3), and get America off foreign oil (Principle 5).

When Hackett outlined his Declaration of Principles in July, he stated, “Too often, politicians say one thing back home, then go off to Washington and do something completely different.  They get by with this sleight of hand because they don’t make clear, in writing, their principles before they are elected.  This is one of the many aspects of Washington that demand a new approach - one that will help return a badly damaged public trust to our federal government.”  The release of these two TV ads continues Hackett’s commitment to inform voters about exactly where he stands on the important issues.

Hackett’s position on the four issues outlined in the ads differs dramatically from those of incumbent Congressman Chris Carney.

Chris Carney has consistently supported politically motivated wasteful spending. He said, “We couldn’t be further apart on an issue [earmarks]” (Susquehanna Independent 7/30/08). Moreover, he has repeatedly voted to keep wasteful spending in legislation, most notably Rep. Rangel’s $2 million earmark for a building named after himself (Roll Call 1050).

Carney voted against placing limits on income for cash payment recipients in the Farm Bill. (Roll Call 238)   He voted to protect a $1 billion sugar subsidy and received the maximum contribution ($5000) from American Crystal Sugar PAC 3 days later. (Roll Call 751)  And he voted to extend a tax break to trial lawyers and Hollywood studios. (Roll Call 6049)

In addition to voting in favor of wasteful spending that draws from the Social Security Trust Fund, Carney voted against new accounting rules that would have made public the on and off budget impact of spending on Trust Fund. (Roll Call 300)

Carney has opposed offshore drilling (Roll Call 533) as well as Alaskan drilling (Citizens Voice 6/9/2008), and has voted against even debating an “All of the Above” energy policy.
