Council for Citizens Against Government Waste: Carney is a Big Spender

Nation’s leading anti-wasteful spending organization says Carney only backs taxpayers 15% of the time

Dallas, PA - The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) released their 2007 ratings of Members of Congress.  This is the first time CAGW has rated Congressman Chris Carney’s performance in office.  Regrettably for Pennsylvania taxpayers, Carney rated a dismal 15% in the yearly ratings which measure a congressman’s votes for or against wasteful government spending.

Campaign Carney has run about being a fiscal conservative, but Washington Carney votes right in lockstep with the liberals for higher spending.

Washington Carney Voted For:

  • A subsidy to the entertainment industry for “technician training” (Roll Call 667)
  • A Kansas Regional Prisons Museum (Roll Call 670)
  • Charlie Rangel’s $2 million “Monument to Me” (Roll Call 678)
  • A “Mule and Packer Museum” (Roll Call 700)
  • A “Lobster Institute” at the University of Maine (Roll Call 735)

Washington Carney even sided with egregious corporate welfare by voting against the income cap for farm subsidies (Roll Call 747).

“The question really is, “When will Chris Carney meet a piece of wasteful Washington spending that he doesn’t support?” said Hackett campaign spokesman Mark Harris.

“It’s disgraceful that Chris Carney takes tax money from hard working Pennsylvania’s and wastes it on things like a Lobster Institute in Maine.  In these economic times, we need to be tightening our belts in Washington and that’s what I will do when I am elected,” said congressional candidate Chris Hackett.
