New Hackett TV Ad: Chris Carney Should Debate
Dallas, PA - Chris Hackett’s campaign today launched a new television advertisement renewing its call for Rep. Chris Carney to engage in multiple debates so voters can compare the two candidate’s positions side-by-side. The ad will run on network and cable TV throughout the district.
Hackett originally challenged Carney to a series of debates on July 8th. Hackett proposed a series of eight debates: three traditional debates and five single issue debates. Several leading news and civic organizations, such as WNEP, WBRE/WYOU, and the League of Women Voters have offered to host debates. The Sunbury Daily Item has also called on Carney to agree to debates. Regrettably, Congressman Carney has refused all debate invitations, other than a single debate just 5 days before Election Day.
Not only is Carney’s refusal to debate a terrible disservice to voters, it also highlights the fact that Carney has become a creature of Washington, and raising the legitimate question of what’s in his record that he’s trying to hide. These subjects are raised in the ad by voters in the 10th Congressional District.
Chris Hackett commented this way, “The people of our district deserve an open and honest debate on the issues, and Chris Carney is doing everything he can to avoid that. Hopefully, our TV ad will encourage Carney to change his position on debates, as he does so often on other issues.”
Script of Ad
Chris Hackett: I’ve challenged Chris Carney to numerous debates, but unfortunately he refuses.
Voter 1: Chris Carney should debate. What’s he trying to hide?
Voter 2: Carney won’t debate. Isn’t that just like a Washington politician?
Voter 3: With Carney’s liberal record, I can see why he’s afraid to debate.
Voter 4: It’s totally disrespectful to voters. Chris Carney thinks he’s a Washington big shot now.
Chris Hackett: I’m Chris Hackett and I approve this message. I’ve never been a politician, and I’ll always tell you where I stand.
